It’s installed seven 3G base stations all along the trekking route to Everest Base Camp—the highest at an elevation of 5,200m. The base stations are solar powered and built to withstand low temperatures and harsh weather conditions. The company hopes that the fifty thousand international tourists who come to trek in the Everest region each year will be grateful for the chance to stay connected.
Ncell says its new network will also make a big difference to mountaineers, who can now receive weather reports and safety information while they’re climbing. (Kilde: economist)
